Smartphones with differs and awesome specifications are being released on daily basis by different mobile brands trying their best to satisfy the needs of the
impatient customers. There have been drastic improvement in specifications of the smartphones released recently ranging from the battery capacity, RAM and ROM,
processor type and size, Os, and security purpose specs like eye scanner and fingerprint scanner.

What is Fingerprint scanner in mobile phone?

A fingerprint sensor is an electronic device used to capture a digital image of the fingerprint pattern. The captured image is called a live scan. This live scan is digitally processed to create a biometric template (a collection of extracted features) which is stored and used for matching.

Fingerprint Scanner which is the focus of this article is a new feature which is added to recent high-end smartphones and iPhones to improve the security measures on our
smartphones. For many people, securing their smartphones with a fingerprint is more secure than using a password, particularly when users tend to opt for simple
and insecure password for the sake of convenience.

One thing about fingerprint scanner is that they are very fast, convenient and more reliable compare to passcode. And it let you opt out of having to type in
some kludgy alphanumerical password every time you want to access your smartphone. Though not perfect as some are clamouring for the invisible one, Fingerprint
is still a good alternative to password.

Advantage of Fingerprint sensor on Smartphones

  • Fingerprint scanner saves you from the stress of racking your brain on which letters or/ and numbers to use as password to your phone.
Fingerprint scanners have become quite a secure alternative to remembering countless user-names and passwords

  • You don’t have to worry about your password being guessed successfully by intruders or hackers.
And another thing is that your phone is at risk of loosing some files or not functioning for a while if wrong password is entered more than a certain number
    of time.

  • Fingerprint scanner is very fast, convenient and more reliable than the normal passcode. No fear of forgetting one countless pin or password
as all you need to do is to place your thumb or any finger you use in setting it up to unlock your phone.

  • Another pros of fingerprint scanner on smart and iPhone is the spice it adds to the body design. Though some are clamouring for an invisible fingerprint sensor
but having a rounded and attractive structure at the back of your phone very close below the rear camera or at the home button like Galaxy S7 / edge makes could
your phone looks more attractive and presentable.

Types of Fingerprint Scanner

  • Optical scanners

Optical fingerprint scanners are the oldest method of capturing and comparing fingerprints. As the name suggests, this technique relies on capturing an
optical image, essentially a photograph, and using algorithms to detect unique patterns on the surface, such as ridges or unique marks, by analysing the
lightest and darkest areas of the image.
The major drawback with optical scanners is that they aren’t difficult to fool. As the technology is only capturing a 2D picture, prosthetics and even
other pictures of good enough quality can be used to fool this particular design. This type of scanners really isn’t secure enough to trust your most sensitive
    details to.

  • Capacitive scanners

The most commonly found type of fingerprint scanner used today is the capacitive scanner. Again the name gives away the core component, providing you’re familiar
with a little electronics, the capacitor.Instead of creating a traditional image of a fingerprint, capacitive fingerprint scanners use arrays tiny capacitor
circuits to collect data about a fingerprint. As capacitors can store electrical charge, connecting them up to conductive plates on the surface of the scanner
allows them to be used to track the details of a fingerprint. The charge stored in the capacitor will be changed slightly when a finger’s ridge is placed over
the conductive plates, while an air gap will leave the charge at the capacitor relatively unchanged. An op-amp integrator circuit is used to track these changes,
which can then be recorded by an analogue-to-digital converter.

  • Ultrasonic scanners

The latest fingerprint scanning technology to enter the smartphone space is an ultrasonic sensor, which was first announced to be inside the Le Max Pro smartphone.
Qualcomm and its Sense ID technology are also a major part of the design in this particular phone.
To actually capture the details of a fingerprint, the hardware consists of both an ultrasonic transmitter and a receiver. An ultrasonic pulse is transmitted
against the finger that is placed over the scanner. Some of this pulse is absorbed and some of it is bounced back to the sensor, depending upon the ridges,
pores and other details that are unique to each fingerprint.

Fingerprint scanners aren’t just reserved for the very top-tier of smartphones these days, even your reasonably priced mid-ranger can come packing in the
additional security hardware. Technology has moved on a lot from the early days too, so here’s a look at how the latest smartphones with Fingerprint scanner
